Several bodies of the central and state governments as well as private organizations bestow numerous honor and awards on vocalists and instrumentalists who have dedicated their lives to the cause of classical music and made lasting contributions toward its enrichment and popularity. However, the excellence and sublimity attained by the performances of these artistes is simply not possible without the able support and contribution of the artists who accompany them on Tabla and Harmonium. In fact, these instruments have acquired universal acceptance as an integral part of such performances and it is inconceivable to think of a concert without them.

Indeed, major styles of accompaniment have evolved over the years; somewhat like the gharanas of khyaal gayaki. Many veteran accompanying artistes have, with their outstanding contributions, earned a place for themselves in the Hall of Fame of Hindustani classical music. To honor their lifelong achievements, the Vidyalaya has instituted the 'Sangatkaar Puraskar' in 1996, and since then these 'Lifetime Achievement Awards'.

In the field of fine arts, the Guru , or the teacher, is the most important entity. The Guru knows the precise capabilities of his students; his strengths as well as weaknesses.
